Countable and Uncoutable nouns

1. Countable Nouns
Countable nouns adalah Suatu kata benda yang dapat dihitung. Contohnya adalah: book (buku), computer (komputer), car (mobil), dan sebagainya. dalam bahasa inggris ada perbedaan jika kita ingin mengatakan satu buku dengan dua buku. Kalau satu buku = a book, sedangkan dua buku two books, lihat book nya ditambah huruf s menjadi books. Ada pembagian lagi untuk countable nouns ini yaitu Singular Nouns dan Plural Nouns. Singular artinya tunggal, sedangkan Plural artinya jamak atau lebih dari satu.

Contohnya :
• I eat a banana every day.
• I like banana.
Banana is contable noun
Bentuk singularnya (banana) sedangkan bentuk pluralnya adalah (bananas)

We can use numbers with countable nouns. So we can say one banana, two banana, etc.
Example of noun usually countable :
 Ronald was singing a song.
 There’s a nice beach near here.
 Do you have a ten – pound note?
 It wasn’t your fault. It was an accident.
 There are no batteries in the game boy.
 We haven’t got enough cups.

You can use a/an with singular countable nouns :
Examples : a beach, a teacher, an umbrella, etc.
Kita tidak dapat menggunakan singular countable nouns sendiri tanpa (a/ the/ my, etc).
Example:
• I want a watermelon. ( bukan I want watermelon).
• There’s been an accident (bukan there’s been accident).

Kita dapat menggunakan plural countable nouns sendiri:
• I like watermelons.
• Accidents can be prevented.

Kita dapat menggunakan Some and Any dengan plural countable nouns, yaitu sebagai berikut:
• We sang some songs.
• Did you buy any watermelon?

Kita dapat menggunakan many dan few dengan plural countable nouns, yaitu sbb:
• We didn’t take many photographs.
• I have a few things to do.

2. Uncoutable Nouns
Uncoutable Nouns adalah Suatu kata benda yang tidak dapat dihitung. Maksudnya tidak bisa dikatakan satu atau dua.
Misalnya: air (water), honey (madu). Tidak bisa a water (satu air), tidak bisa two honey (dua madu), dan sebagainya. Uncountable nouns tidak boleh ditambah s atau es seperti countable nouns tadi. Tidak ada waterS (ini salah). Tapi kalau three cups of water (tiga cangkir air) bisa.
Contohnya :
• I eat a rice every day.
• I like rice.
Banana is Uncontable noun.
An uncountable noun has only one form (rice).

We can’t use numbers with Uncountable nouns. So we can say one rice, two rice, etc.
Example of noun usually countable :
 Ronald was listening to (some) music.
 There’s sand in my shoes.
 Do you have any money?
 It wasn’t your fault. It was bad luck
 There is no electricity in this house.
 We haven’t got enough water.

You cannot normally use a/an with Uncountable nouns, kita tidak dapat mengatakan a sand, a music, a rice, etc. But you can often use a … of. For examples: a bowl, a packet, a grain of rice.

You can use Uncoutable nouns alone without ( the/my/some,etc) :
• I eat rice every day.
• There’s blood on your shirt.
• Can you listen music?

You can use some and any with Uncoutable nouns:
• We listened to some music.
• Do you buy any apple juice.

We can use much and little with Uncoutable noun :
• We didn’t do much shopping.
• I have a little homework in the school.
